Cairns Art Society Newletters and other Australian Art News ARTISTS @ WORK

A group of CAS members has established this working artists studio and gallery in 2015 for artists to work together and be able to exhibit in the Cairns CBD.  This was done with the support of the Cairns Regional Council’s Urban Spaces program.

Located at 29 Sheridan Street, Cairns, and opposite the famed Rusty’s Market, the studio is a busy and inspirational hub of activity throughout the week, with artists working there and often helping each other, as well as regular adult and children’s art classes.

The co-operative usually has around 15 artists, with capacity for up to 20.  Each artist has their own area to work and exhibit.  Artists can also use the community work areas, the shared gallery, and a large teaching space.  Off-street car parking for four cars is a boon, especially on market days.  Artists share the rent and power costs on a month-to-month basis.

Louise Broadbent and Zita Sudnika run weekly art classes and Louise also does children’s workshops on school holidays.
